Step 2 Recruit Your Board of Advisors

Day 2 of 31 days to Creating Your Inspiring Personal Plan for 2012.

Welcome to the second step in the one step-per-day process that will have you creating, within 31 days, a personal plan for 2012 that inspires you to make 2012 your very best year ever. If you haven’t yet found your planning buddy, reread Step 1…you are not looking for some planning genius. You just need someone who will work with you, through the daily process so that you both have a plan one month from now.

Now, if you already have your buddy, you have demonstrated you are a get it done type person. Congratulations!

So let’s pick up the pace. Step 2 is one of the most powerful in the 31 step/days process. For Step 2, you need to recruit your very own “Board of Advisors.” This will not be as difficult as it may initially seem…so hang in there. This step might even take you a couple of days to put in place, but that is OK as you will not need to actuallyuse your Board until a couple of weeks from now.

As you know, every successful company has a skilled Board of Directors (for liability reasons, some start-up companies use a “Board of Advisors” and that is from where they get their input; the Board of Directors is more ministerial.)

As the “CEO of You, Inc.”  you deserve to have input from some sage advisors. None of us can be all knowing. We will call this informal group your “Board of Advisors.”

Later this month when you have your draft plan ready, you will be reviewing it with your “Board.”

Relax, you don’t have to really go create a formal Board. You may be in a Mastermind Group where your fellow Group members could serve the role of reviewers of the plan you will be developing. Or, maybe you have a coach and/or mentor who would agree to review and comment on your plan.

What you need to is to recruit three or four individuals willing to invest two hours, later this month, to review your plan and give you some verbal feedback. It will not take them more than two hours to complete the review and give you their feedback (and many will be able to do so in less time than that).

Pick individuals that you know, trust and respect. Tell them that you would be very grateful if they would review your draft plan when you have it complete three weeks from now.

Here is the secret as to why you will likely be able to recruit great reviewers. Most high performers will be impressed that you are taking personal planning so seriously. Many will even be envious that you are being so diligent and will be eager to read what you have come up with for a plan.

If you follow this planning process day-by-day, I can guarantee you that you will have a plan that will impress your reviewers. Most will even want to then follow your progress after their review. Some will even decide to join the program and create their own plan.

High performers, like those following this program, attract other high performers. And, their performance goes up when they have the benefit of getting input from other smart and caring people.

Unlike most steps, this step may take a couple of days to fully complete. Not to worry! Your so called “Board” does not need to be in place until you have your draft complete, a couple of weeks from now.

High performers routinely surround themselves with talented people who can help speed their progress. You deserve nothing less!

I know that when you have your quality plan reviewers in place you will have flexed your “completion muscle” and demonstrated — to yourself — that can make it through this thirty one (bite size) step process.

Here is some good news…tomorrow’s step is far easier and even more instantly rewarding.

Stay the course. Developing a solid 2012 plan is not easy, but the rewards of having such in place are significant. Stay the course!
