As I described in Step 29 of the 2010 Plan process, I am a huge believer in the importance of surrounding oneself with all dimensions of support so as to minimize the risk of being derailed from one’s Life Purpose by any of the bumps of life. (If you don’t yet have a personal plan for success in 2010, it is not too late to build one in January. Read about this free process here.) One of the support elements that I carry with me is a laminated card with the lyrics of … [Read more...]
How to Have Your Best Year Ever
At this time of the year, there is a never ending stream of books, artcles and blog posts providing wonderful information on How to Have the Best Year Ever. Every year, one of two really stand out for me. This year, I was moved by the below post by Dr. Deb Brown. I liked her post so much that I asked, and was granted, permission to publish it in its entirety. Not only is the content first rate, but I was moved by her salute to Jim Rohn, who was the subject of a Twitter hour … [Read more...]
Ready Set Grow
One of the participants in this 2010 Plan process is Billy Cox, a leading motivational speaker and inspiring author. Billy wrote the following blog post on his excellent blog, Billy Cox International. Because I so liked his post, Ready Set Grow, and thought it so relevant for those participating in this process, the post is reproduced below - in its entirety - with Billy’s permission. * * * * * Ready…Set… GROW. That’s right GROW! Do … [Read more...]
The Real Lesson in the Tiger Woods Tragedy
No, I am not going to jump on the bandwagon and add my two cents to those who choose to either castigate or support Tiger Woods. The entire situation is, for me, tragic in so many ways. Tragic for Tiger’s family. Tragic for Tiger. Tragic for the claimed paramours who are using this opportunity to claim their moment in the spotlight. Tragic for his sponsors and for the PGA Tour. And, tragic for our society which has once again demonstrated our collective fascination with the … [Read more...]
But What If I Have No 2009 Accomplishments to Celebrate?
One of the participants in this 2010 Plan process is Susan Mazza, a terrific consultant and wonderful personal coach. After completing Step 3 in the 2010 Plan process, Susan reached out to me to express concern that some participants might think they have nothing to celebrate for 2009. Her thoughtfulness and compassion on this point were so outstanding that I asked her to share her thoughts for the benefit of any who might with this step of the process. Susan's wise … [Read more...]
Do YOU Really Deserve Success?
No, I am not about to challenge you as to whether you meet some performance standard. Today, I don’t care whether you eat your Cheerios each day, or get your aerobic exercise or maintain a positive attitude or do whatever that it might take to bring you success. :) Today, I want to know if YOU really believe that you deserve success? In my mentoring of high performers, I frequently encounter mentees whose biggest barrier to greater success is their own limiting … [Read more...]
One Man’s Search for Meaning in Life
Over 50 years ago, Viktor Frankl wrote the powerful book Man’s Search for Meaning. If you have never read the book, I highly, highly recommend it. It is a classic, for good reason. Well, this blog post is certainly not likely to be a classic ala Frankl’s book. My purpose in writing this post is not to proclaim some uncommon insight on this subject. Instead, I am writing about my own life purpose solely as an aid for those who are involved in my annual free personal … [Read more...]
Perfectionism: What a Killer!
I am reading a book called Art and Fear, Observations On the Perils (and Rewards) of Artmaking by David Bayles and Ted Orland. The book includes an interesting section about perfectionism. The co-authors tell the story about a teacher that announced that he was going to divide the class into two groups. One group would be graded on quantity, and one would be graded on quality. The grading process was simple. For the quantity group, its performance would be measured by … [Read more...]
Passionate Purpose
At the risk of being negative for just a moment, imagine your funeral service. What will the speakers say about you? "We gather today to honor Jerry who had three beautiful homes and always drove a new Cadillac." Or, "we gather today to honor Sally who was the highest female executive at ABC Company." Or, "we gather today to honor Robert who traded in his wives and cars on a regular basis." ??? Or an even more sobering thought, who will want to be a speaker at your … [Read more...]
